I look out the frosted window
At the snow falling on the ground.
I listen for noises below,
But to my delight there isn't a sound.

I put on my big puffy jacket
And tie my boots tight to my feet.
Trying not to make too much racket,
I slide down the banister and past my dog Pete.

I quietly sneak out the front door,
And into the dead of the night.
I dance around my front yard,
Mimicking a bird in flight.

I think of an idea,
Letting my inner-child show.
I make one snowball; then two; three; four,
And throw them up towards the moon's heavenly glow.

Crashing onto the new fallen flakes,
I make two snow angels side-by-side.
Back and forth my arms shake,
For the wings of the angels: a guide.

Suddenly I see hints of orange and yellow in the distance,
And realize I'd better go back in the house.
Slipping into the entryway,
I creep up the stairs like a mouse.

I jump back onto my bed,
And pull over me the down-fillled quilt.
Letting the images slide thorough my head,
I remember the snow-things I built.

Emily Hopkins

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/snow-things/
